COCHIN

Climate
Lying on the coast, Cochin is influenced by the monsoons. Heavy showers can be
found during the South-West monsoon which falls between June and August, while
the North-East monsoon brings light rainfalls during the months of September,
October, November, and December. Cochin enjoys pleasantly cool weather from
December to February.
Shopping
Kerala is home to the country's skillful artisans; therefore the Cochin's
sought-after objects are folk artifacts and handicrafts including metal ware,
camel-bone carvings, wood-carvings, items made of coconut shells, bamboo cane,
embroidered screw-pine- mates, and mats to name just a few. Jewelry, readymade
garments, and ethnic hand-woven textiles of Cochin are also second to none.
The major shopping centers are concentrated on M.G. Road in the heart of the
city. Shops open at 10 a.m. and close around 8 p.m., and they generally close on
Sundays.
Cuisine
Cochin shares its delicacy with the famous Kerala cuisine. Cuisine of Kerala is
deliciously spiced with pepper, turmeric, cardamom and tempered with coconut
milk. Try the fresh seafood, hot toddy-flavored pancakes, pineapples and
bananas.
Festivals
The annual festival which attracts a number of people is the eight-day festival,
celebrated to worship the deity of Shiva Temple, situated at the heart of
Cochin. The celebration includes the Seeveli procession with 9 tuskers and the
Panchavadayam is held twice a day. Traditional music concerts are presented by
renowned artists as well.
